Wer hat den Muttertag erfunden?
Die Begründerin des Muttertages, wie wir ihn heute feiern, ist vermutlich Anna Jarvis aus Philadelphia in den USA. Sie verteilte am zweiten Sonntag im Mai des Jahres 1907 anlässlich des Todestages ihrer geliebten Mutter 500 weiße Nelken vor einer Kirche. Im Jahr darauf setzte sie eine kirchliche Andacht zu Ehren ihrer und aller Mütter durch. Schnell fand der Gedenktag viele Anhänger, schon 1914 erklärte der damalige amerikanische Präsident Woodrow Wilson den Muttertag zum nationalen Feiertag. Bald übernahm England den Ehrentag, der hier “mothering day” heißt. Es folgten die Schweiz, Norwegen und 1922 auch Deutschland.
Who invented Mother's Day?
The founder of Mother's Day as we celebrate it today is probably Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia in the US. She distributed the second Sunday in May of 1907 on the occasion of the anniversary of the death of their beloved mother 500 white carnations in front of a church. The following year she set a church worship by honoring her and all mothers. Of Remembrance quickly found many followers, in 1914, the then US President Woodrow Wilson declared Mother's Day a national holiday. England soon took over the special day , which is called "mothering day". This was followed by Switzerland, Norway and 1922 and Germany.
